Plastic’s Not Fantastic

Reblogged from Violet’s Vegan Comics:

Violet's Vegan Comics

You know plastic’s not fantastic

And it might seem rather drastic

But the obvious solution

Is a New Year’s resolution

To give unfantastic plastic the heave-ho.

So that’s what we’ve decided,

We’re determined to be guided

By the needs of Earth and Earthlings

To be free of all plastic things,

So to all new things of plastic we say NO!

          • Some silver linings (but the clouds themselves are still awful dark):

Big money to be made in environmental solutions.

Increasing number of biodegradable products available, including the plastic spoon I’m using at the moment. The biodegradable feature is used as a strong selling point.

Continued progress in banning plastic shopping bags.

  1. I must have been around 10 or 12 years old when I saw my first no deposit/no return soda bottle (it was glass). Even then I knew it was a bad idea and hoped it wouldn’t catch on. Today, I hear the 30-something crowd talk about sustainability and pat themselves on the back for all they are doing for the environment. Poppycock! They have no clue what recycle, reuse, repurpose is. The generation that lived through WWII never threw anything away until there was no way it could be salvaged for some useful purpose (Mom kept every threadbare shirt for rags). It’s a crime what we are doing to the planet.

    Pardon my long rant. 🙂

  2. It is a crime, indeed! My parents were the same; you never know when something may be handy again to use for another purpose. I do that as well. I’m happy that more and more people are becoming aware of the problem and are seeking solutions! 🙂
