Our TV and newspapers are filled with stories and photos commemorating the invasion. One network is running a special tonight. It’s great they do this, especially for the younger generation who don’t appreciate what these young men did to preserve our freedoms.
I’m also amazed (and thrilled) at the number of old soldiers who are still alive and got to visit Normandy.
I agree! When I visited France several years ago, the tour stopped at the Normandy beaches. It was difficult to imagine the horrific carnage and immense sacrifice that had occurred on such a tranquil beach. But then we walked to the cemetery to see endless rows of crosses and stars. Most of us were crying at this point.
