So the Highlands visited me! I was so surprised to see these thistles growing in my back garden.

Of course, as soon as I went outside to take photos, it got windy and most of the images are blurry. These 3 were the best of the lot. π

Nice photos. There were many bees on my sunflowers once, but as soon as I got my camera the wind started!!!

Lovely! I’d love some thistles to randomly start growing in my garden. Everything else seems to π

What’s funny is that I actually planted seeds for a butterfly garden 4 years ago. And nothing happened. The thistles have taken over a sizable area.

Oh, I feel your photo pain! π Looking at the fence, they must be ginormous!

Most are taller than me! Some are 6 feet tall!

Wow. That’s why I don’t believe in weed. If it grows, let it π

Most of the plants that produce flowers on my property are considered “weeds”. But I think they are flowers and I let them grow. π

Pollinators love them! Including monarch butterflies. Goldfinches will visit, too, if they live in your area.

I’m so happy to hear that! I tried planting seeds for a butterfly garden and nothing grew. I’ll be on the lookout for goldfinches. π

Been there, done that π I was cutting down the weeds in front of them and my hands got scratched.

So pretty! I was so excited when thistles showed up at our last house but apparently the variety we have out here are extremely aggressive and wanted to take over the front yard. Plants are warriors!

I think that might be the case with these. There were many more than I thought when I took a closer look. If they help the butterflies and bees, I’m happy for them to take more space.

I didn’t mind them taking over either but my ex fussed over the yard. Thanks for taking care of the butterflies and bees! π¦π

Lovely flowers. I can’t get any Bee pictures either. Not enough detail available since they started wearing face masks down this way.

So this what they mean when they say, “If Mohamed does not go to the mountain, the mountain will go to Mohamed.” Beautiful pictures, wind notwithstanding.

Oh, they remind me of my childhood! I grew up on farms, and encountered many scotch thistles. Quite bitey if you get too close, but pretty flowers indeed. I remember thinking as a teenager that I’d like to dye my hair that particular shade of purple π

I got a little too close when I was investigating. π I had a few strands of purple hair at one point. π

Thank you, Ida! π I think there will be quite a lot of thistles next year. Many more bloomed and I noticed more of the plants hidden behind some other wild flowers.
