An estimated 14 billion pounds of trash-most of it plastic -is dumped in the world’s oceans every year.
Plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1 million marine animals and birds in the Pacific Ocean every year. http://seastewards.org
Recycle, Reuse, Repurpose, Reduce for a Greener, Cleaner Planet!
Those are very sad statistics 😦

I agree! And there several more statistics equally as sad. 😦

It should be Earth Day every day – for our own sake too.

The general attitude seems to be: “Yes, we know we are killing ourselves but, no worries, it’s not going to be just yet!”

I work in a school and am always amazed (in a bad way) how little is said/done about Earth Day. Schools just reopened here on Monday so I know this year there wasn’t time for anyone, including myself, to get anything planned for it, but it just seems like a missed opportunity every year.

There were so many news reports in 2020 about dramatically less pollution last year just by people staying home. Hopefully next year, this will be mentioned; proving the point that humans are destroying their own habitat.

I worry about the oceans and marine life. I think for many people it’s “out of sight, out of mind,” and that’s a problem. If we can’t see the damage, we might not take the necessary steps to reduce or prevent it. It’s easy to get discouraged, but we have to remember that it’s not too late to save many of the creatures who share our planet.

I agree entirely! What affects one part of the environment affects every part of the environment. Many steps have been taken recently but so much more needs to be done.

Yes, happy Earth Day! It seems at one time there was a slogan, “Earth day is every day.” And I remember back when Earth Day started. I wish I could do more but I do what I can to recycle and reuse. I hate seeing what blows into our bays but I have been known to chase a plastic bag down the street to grab it before it can reach the bay. The Earth is our home.

Yes, I just saw that slogan recently. I do the same; recycle and reuse. I wish there was another type of packing instead of plastic!

Oh dear. Well I noticed supermarkets are now leaving fruit and vegetables loose and having brown paper bags to put them in.

A much better solution! Some things old are new again. 🙂

My honey has transformed me from a rather lackadaisical recycler to an avid one! He’s a real stickler!

We agree, it should be earth day every day. At least in our mind and action it has to be earth day all the time.
Thanks for sharing.

Ah! Earth Day! That artificial construct dreamed up by a few to help 7 billion get convinced that we are doing a great job of nurturing it. Love it 🙂

Industrial revolution, then planned obsolescence of manufactured goods; things went downhill rather quickly!
