Happy Earth Day!

An estimated 14 billion pounds of trash-most of it plastic -is dumped in the worldโ€™s oceans every year.

Plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1 million marine animals and birds in the Pacific Ocean every year.

  1. I work in a school and am always amazed (in a bad way) how little is said/done about Earth Day. Schools just reopened here on Monday so I know this year there wasn’t time for anyone, including myself, to get anything planned for it, but it just seems like a missed opportunity every year.

  2. I worry about the oceans and marine life. I think for many people it’s “out of sight, out of mind,” and that’s a problem. If we can’t see the damage, we might not take the necessary steps to reduce or prevent it. It’s easy to get discouraged, but we have to remember that it’s not too late to save many of the creatures who share our planet.

  3. Yes, happy Earth Day! It seems at one time there was a slogan, “Earth day is every day.” And I remember back when Earth Day started. I wish I could do more but I do what I can to recycle and reuse. I hate seeing what blows into our bays but I have been known to chase a plastic bag down the street to grab it before it can reach the bay. The Earth is our home.

  4. We agree, it should be earth day every day. At least in our mind and action it has to be earth day all the time.
    Thanks for sharing.
