And quite possibly my most successful this year.
Of course, it’s not a painting of a radiator. I actually painted the radiator! Only took me 7 years to finally get it done. ๐ My house was built in 1928 and this is the original radiator in the kitchen.
Needless to say, Henri and Porthos were amazed and insisted on being part of this historic occasion.
Michelangelo dreamed of painting such a radiator.

I love those old cast iron radiators!

So do i! The other radiators have no decoration so I don’t know if they were original to the house or not.

To be honest, I have only seen the ornate ones here in France. I have seen them in homes in the UK but as “new” additions. Whatever it is, it’s gorgeous! ๐

Now to paint the filigree design in a contrasting colour. That should only take a couple of years!

Great job – a work of art! It is really pretty with the delicate lines. Glad your helpers approve too. I am impressed! Art in your kitchen.

Thanks, Jo Nell! All I did was paint over what was already there. I can’t take credit for the art. ๐

So pretty! Is the house still heated with the radiators? Or just there to preserve the integrity of the house?

Thanks, Kristen! The radiators still heat the house. Although the back of the house is always at least 10 degrees cooler than the front. ๐

I hope the radiator heat doesn’t blister your beautiful paint job!

It better not! I did use paint especially made for heat. ๐

Great idea my friend. Mine was built in 1918 and I have two. I love the historic aspect, but never thought about painting them. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much! ๐ I should have taken a “before” photo. The radiator was rusting. If you paint yours be sure you use special paint that is made to withstand heat.

Fanciest radiator I’ve ever seen! I was wondering about the paint, but I see from the above comments that you’ve used special heat-proof paint. Awesome.

Thank you so much! Judging from some of the paint that was peeling, I think the radiator looked like it does now when it was new in 1928. ๐

Exquisite detail, and the heat resistant paint is so uniform. Magnificiant work!
BTW – we have a 500 gallon propane tank that’s badly in need of a paint job. Think you could work it sometime in the next decade? It needs to be that same shade of silver.
