About MagickMermaid

Greetings and thank you for visiting!

Mermaid at Work

As a child I could usually be found with my nose in a book, endlessly daydreaming of far-off destinations, times gone by and magickal kingdoms. The seaside has always been especially enchanting to me. I enjoyed imagining my own fantasy world then. Now I live in it! And paint whatever or whoever curiously appears in my imagination. Sometimes whimsical, sometimes mythological, sometimes dark. I am inspired by nature, the metaphysical, and sacred places I have visited.

I am entirely self-taught. Years ago I did take a drawing class briefly; but apparently my work was so dreadful the instructor admonished me never to pick up a paintbrush! I unfortunately took that advice to heart and many years went by before I was brave enough to try again. After much trial and error, and the destruction of many erasers, I decided to paint whatever catches my fancy! Even if I begin with an idea or short story I’ve created, I never know exactly who or what will materialize on the paper until I start drawing. Posting the stories along with the artwork is something new I have decided to try.  I’m interested in all things magickal and the natural world. My quirky sense of humour often appears in my cartoons and dark art.

I began blogging in 2016.  What I enjoy the most is the opportunity to communicate with people all over the world.  We may look different from each other, dress differently, worship differently.  But our hearts are all the same.  We all seek love, acceptance, peace and interaction.  Let us celebrate our unique qualities and sentient spirits!

  1. Happy to follow you, even if my english reading is not very fluent, knowing I’m french and not used to pratice it very often.
I try however to also write in english, (some poems), if you may be interested. 😉
    See you soon !

  2. So nice to meet you! Your English is quite good! I’m afraid my French is limited to food words only. 🙂 I will follow you as well and try to read your blog with translation. 🙂

  3. It’s great to meet you and thanks for following my blog. I don’t know if you noticed the picture of my sister dressed as a mermaid on my site.. You remind me of her and over the years she’s drawn me into a magical and spiritual world. She loves mermaids as you can tell and also hummingbirds are her ‘symbol’ – she even has a tattoo of one on her back… I’m looking forward to feeling the magic from your site! xx

  6. Thanks so much for liking my little article, 60 Years: Then and Now.

Your artwork is stunning! You could be illustrating for books and magazines – not to mention showing in a gallery! I’m in awe of your ability.

Take care, I hope to see your name in lights one day! 🙂

  7. You have a lovely blog, and I think you’re very talented! I relate to your unfortunate experience, the suggestion that you did not have talent–I went to a poetry conference once…but it quickly became clear that the instructor either didn’t want to be there, or it had been set up for her to only salute specific people–she was harsh and dismissive toward me and my poem. The good thing was that I’d already been told by 2 wonderful teachers back in high school that indeed I had a natural gift…”keep polishing it”, they encouraged. It’s a joy to write, and share here on the blogs in my “silver’ years. So I salute you–and am very glad to have made your acquaintance 🙂

  8. Stella, thank you so much for your compliment! I really appreciate it! It’s unfortunate that some teachers do not realise how much one or two negative comments can affect a youngster and stifle creativity. One wonders why they entered the teaching field at all. Luckily, as we grow older, we can see the negative people for who they are; sad people dissatisfied with their own lives and failures.

  9. Your drawings are amazing. I love astrology and everything related to it. It is fun to find so many different kinds of words and creatures in your drawings. Keep up the good work and all the best. See you

  10. Your artwork is magical, you’re very talented. My youngest granddaughter loves mermaids and once said she wanted to be one. I agree mermaids are real and I can’t wait to see more of your work.

  11. We have had similar “upbringings,” regarding teaching ourselves to draw/paint and being admonished. And, I guess I have been quite shy, too. My social skills are lacking. My social anxiety has not been.

    Question: Dark art?

    • Ah. Okay. From one comment here, I was concerned you might be into black magic or some other cult-ish behavior/practice.

There seems to be some problem with attaching replies so they appear in the comment alert thingy. I am lucky I don’t make or get so many comments that I can’t look back via an old tool for those of us, I guess, who’ve been here at least 6 years.

  12. Bonjour, Madame La Sirène Magique, I have been reading some of your Gnome and I pieces.
    I love them.
I don’t know why I haven’t read them before now, I guess I am just lazy.
Thank you for visiting Sound Bite Fiction, and for your kind words, always.
